Perhaps YOU would have said it, but I doubt others.
So, as I understand this, it is more offensive to assert that one's own boat "looks like crap" than it is to assert that one's own work is "always perfect"? I'm having a wee bit of trouble understanding that one.
Of course, to assert that your work is always perfect because it always meets your standards strikes me as rather a self-centered and narrow-minded view. If that's the measure of perfection, then I'd say we live in a perfect world.
