Hi Clark,

One of the fellows on an earlier post mentioned the Canoecraft book. I found the new 2000 edition at a local bookstore for $19.95. The book is very well written. Ted Moores gives you some history and then instruction on strip building. In the past couple weeks, my Dad and I built a strongback from the design in the book.

As for the canoe, I took the easy way out and ordered a kit from Noahs Marine Supplies in Toronto. The kit was very complete. In the kit were the plans for the Wee Robbie canoe to be built. While at my parents house, Dad and I cut out the station moulds too.

The book contains plans for 8 canoes, 5 of which are between 12' and 15'9".

Check out the book and you will have a lot better idea of what strip building is about. This will be my 3rd boat building experience. The first was a stitch and glue kayak and the second a stitch and glue canoe.

Buy the book - read the book - then order your materials and get building!!!

Best of success, Mark
