Hi Rehd,

The need for quick easy building makes skin on frame your only choice.

that's my opinion.

may I recommend the book: "Building a Jawbone Kayak", by Zu Freeman.

you can get it from amazon. I did.

It's somekind of canoe/kayak hybrid.

the construction method of this boat is: making all the cross sections from wood frames, connecting them with few strips here & there, & wrapping the whole thing with something clothy.

everything you make is the boat. there isn't any leftovers like strongback or whatever.

the book cost less than $10 & all the plans are in it.

the danger is that you'll fall in love with this boat, & the hell with the great auk.

with your woodworking experience you'll probably make it even simpler than the book.

may I add that I didn't built this boat. I just browsed the book. well, it's not even a book, it's more like a letter size notebook. less than 100 pages, & that includes the full size plans.

It's something like the "mill creek".
