:I'll put in my $.02 as a strict amateur...I built a paddle, then the boat, and am finding the paddle length too short! Part of the problem is that I have a relatively wide boat (17' CLC chesapeake (24" beam)) and a relatively high foredeck (high volume boat). So I think my paddling strokes are more vertical than intended. I mention this so that you might take into account the height and width of your boat, although this won't effect loom length. My opinion is to build too long - it is easier to cut it back if necessary.
