And I don't know why. I can't tighten up the ropes as much with a plastic or glass boat; they either deform too much or make those awfull cracking noises. My S&G is much stiffer than either. I can crank down as tight as I want.

Maybe some wooden boat builders let them fly off as experiments? Some builders SO's don't want them building a new boat while the last one is still good. Hmmmm.
