Before painting over epoxy ...

Before painting over epoxy, is it necessary to coat feathered glass edges with epoxy? I know that when finishing bright, you should coat exposed glass with epoxy to avoid print-through later, but is that necessary when painting? It sure would be nice to avoid a 2nd round of epoxy sanding if it's not required.
Also, If I go with Interlux Brightsides, is the epoxy barrier coat recommended or can I paint directly onto the sanded epoxy.
