Certainly, the easiest way to re-join the deck and the hull is to use a scarf joint, but this leaves nasty screws and adds wait. Most builders these days use fiberglass tape and epoxy to join the shear line (you'll want to find out what kind of resin the boat already has on it first and repeat its use). This gives a very stong join and dosen't look bad.
