Thanks for all the suggestions. I went to West Marine last night and bought all the paint goodies. I passed on the Epoxy Barrier Coat and went with the Brightsides primer (which was cheaper and I could use the same brushing thinner as the paint). I'll try painting bare epoxy on a sample block before opening the primer - I read on the CLC site that they've never had problems using Brightsides directly over epoxy. I'd like to go that route and not introduce a soft layer between the epoxy and the paint. We'll see.
