The British kayaks like to use parallel cords because they do a lot of chart reading held under the bungees.

The one thing I learned - I'm 6'2 and like to have my deck bungees a distance away from the cockpit otherwise I'm hitting it with my knuckels as I paddle especially since I use a Greenland paddle and use a low stroke.
