I am nearly done stripping my Great Auk, so still have the opportunity for more mistakes. Next time I'll:
Very carefully lay the first hull strip to insure symetry both in the hull and deck. It should exactly hit the sheer line the same on both sides.
Mill more narrow strips. I am trying some modest designs on the deck but the only narrow strips I made were from the poorest wood. They are the worst for bending.
Jamming in tapered strips often opens up a seam somewhere else.
Things I am happy with:
A combination of staples and jury-rigged clamps.
The boat design.
All the time I took fussing with form alignment.
Biggest boner to date:
Spending 2 hours making a perfect pair of strips tapered on both ends, then cutting off the end of one to make a wedge to tighten the first. I hope you enjoy the project as much as I am.
