Marty -

I built a Ches 17 LT last year and have used it on the great lakes, smaller lakes, and several rivers. Smallest river was the Root in SE Minnesota, where it worked fine even though there was a strong current and many turns. The boat does track well, which for me is more often an asset than a liability. Leaning to the outside of the turn and extending my greenland paddle for a big sweep stroke helps me turn quicker.
