I have moved away from applying fill coats with a squeegee or roller. I now brush it on and am not having much problem with runs or drips.

I apply the resin in the same way I apply varnish. Brush it on horizontally, even it out with vertical strokes and tip off with horizontal strokes. This seems to work quite well for producing an even coat with a minimum of runs, drips or errors.

I might try a the cut-up roller for the last tipping off in the future. It has sounds like it has possibilities. But a brush applies the most resin so the number of coats required is fewer.

BTW if I do get get drips, a Shinto Wood Rasp makes quick work of them.
