so if I understand correct:

I can spray, or spread gelkote on polyester, & then sand it smooth, & my boat will not be so scratch sensitive, like an epoxy boat. It will also not shine like a factory boat.

polyester resin/gelkote will not adhere to cured epoxy. this is a little strange because the epoxy is cured, so how can the gelkote tell what it is applied on ? but..... I take it from you that it wont work.

epoxy WILL adhere to dried polyester, because epoxy is smarter, & it understands that the stuff under him is not really his business. that's good, because it means that hold downs/tie downs/etc' can be glued to gelkote.

polyester stinks more than epoxy. way way much more.

here are few more questions:

does polyester resin adhere to itself, when the first layer is cured ?

or for example, when making the shear seam ?

or does it have to be done with epoxy ? (the shear seam)

I think it does adhere to itself, because Craig mentioned that gelkote is just pigmented polyester, & it does adhere to the cured layer under it.

am I correct about it ?

I think I remember some people here mentioning building s&g's with polyester in order to save $$, or because of other reasons. I think they mentioned the polyester is a little heavier, but not really a problem.

am I correct ? or is my memory not what it used to be ? (well, you don't really need to answer the 2nd part of this question 8-) )

if that thing with the gelkote can work on a home built s&g, than I think it's worth for me to consider, because the way I treat my boats, I will not have to worry about fixing all these scratches anymore.
