I stopped by Jackel Enterprises in Watsonville this morning just to look around and came out several dollars lighter. They have a fair amount of rough clear red cedar in both 8/4 (2 inch) and 7/4 (1 3/4 inch) thicknesses. The thinner stock has proved not too popular and is selling for under $4.00/bf. I picked up a nice piece of tight vertical grain 8 inch stock that will be ripped for two Greenland paddle blanks. I neglected to ask about long stock for strips or for gunwales, stringers etc. on a skin on frame boat, but there were pieces at least 10 feet, probably longer, maybe full length.

While I was waiting for him to get off the phone, I picked through the offcut pile and found some short 8/4 Alaskan Yellow Cedar that should work well for deck beams on the Greenland boat I am fitfully trying to build. $1.50.bf.

The usual disclaimers: don't know them, ain't got no connection except as customer. However it's the only place I know of around this area that has any cedar at all.
