: I too have been pondering a skin and frame kayak and in searching through
: this and other web sources have seen several references to hypalon. My
: question is: What is it? Some talk about it as a really toxic liquid type
: stuff to apply to canvas while others refer to it as the waterproof fabric
: itself. Is it both? On the same lines, is there a good
: waterproofing/sealing solution that is relatively clear, e.g. not paint?
: Seems like varnish/urethane type stuff would crack or peal.
: Sorry if these questions are covered in "the books". I've ordered
: them, but haven't recieved them yet.
: Thanks,
: Bill
Hypalon is sold in both form. Graco sells in liquid form and some roofing supplier sell in sheet form. You can search on internet under"Hypalon." I have not try Graco yet, but have posted as a small time contractor (which I was several years ago) interested in switching over from tar-and-gravel roofing to hypalon roof. I would needed to purchase a small amount (one or two rolls) to test the product out. I never got any reply from them. I guess them are not interest in small amount sale. From what I study. Roll hypalon will adhere to itself when comes out of the seal pouch. But, you need to use adhesive beyond 24 hours. Paul Jacobson use Snowcote to cover canvas. You may want to ask him his method of application,
Any words Paul??
