: Well another message from a "newbie". I've been lurking for a while
: and have learned alot from the postings of all of the active members (not
: to mention also perusing their web sites). This June I completed a Pygmy
: Osprey Double and am about to start on my first cedar strip boat (the
: Endeavour 17 from Bear Mountain). My plan is to "do it all"
: including cutting my own strips. Can anyone tell me of a source for
: reasonably priced Western Red Cedar in the Toronto area. I am familiar
: with Noahs but was hoping to get wood more reasonably priced.
: As an aside I had the good fortune to be in Vancouver BC last weekend (after
: four days of kayaking the Broken Island group in Barkley Sound) to catch
: the Vancouver Wooden boat show. It was not as large as R2K but they had
: four diplays of cedar strip kayaks (several Spring Runs, two Endeavours
: and several Guillemots).
: thanks for your help.
You could check out TenderCraft Boat Shop on Markhan St.in Toronto. Note that they are NOT in Markham!
Their website is http://www.tendercraftboats.com/
You could also check out Bear Mountain Boats at http://www.bearmountainboats.com/intro.asp
...I just checked their website, they actually recommend a supplier in Peterborough (!).
Where are you in Toronto? If you don't mind going just outside of Toronto, Century Mill in Stouffville is really great. Their web page is http://www.centurymill.com/.
BTW, Dunrobin is close to Ottawa.
Most good lumber mills (not HD or similar) can get anything you want if you call in advance.
Good Luck
