Rehd,
You definitely want the #10 - 14.7 oz. cotton duck or equivalent. I have heard from several people who have used 10 oz. and had it tear on them in very short order. The #10 is far stronger. I have only had paint abraision on my 1 year old skin kayak with #10 cotton duck.
Mike
: My reference was to George Putz book where he calls for "10 oz."
: cotton duck( canvas ). I don't know one from the other, as I've never
: worked with it or as of yet, shopped for it. Will look for it locally
: first, if I decide to go that route. Am also looking at building it in
: plywood as per Mike Hanks plywood Walrus. Just checking all avenues.
: There is also denim that is nearly as thick and strong as lighter canvas.
: Thicker than you would want for your levis. It will stretch a little more,
: perhaps, than canvas, but, will seal up with a painted coating, I'm
: guessing. This is not neccessarily an option at this time, but, merely an
: inquiry.
: If #10 duck is around 15 oz. then what # would 10 oz. duck be?? That is what
: I'm looking for. Thanks for the link. I'll check it out and see if they
: have what I'm interested in.
