In Response To: cedar in the Toronto area? (Frank Eberdt)

Try Exotic Woods Inc. in Burlington. When I spoke to them a few weeks ago, they had rough-cut cedar in 1x6, 2x6, up to 20 foot lengths. They quoted me $7.50 (Cdn) per board-foot for 1x6 and $6.50 per board-foot for 2x6.

I am also about to start an Endeavour (my first boat), and I also will be cutting my own strips. I'll be starting in the next three or four weeks. Good Luck with yours.

: Well another message from a "newbie". I've been lurking for a while
: and have learned alot from the postings of all of the active members (not
: to mention also perusing their web sites). This June I completed a Pygmy
: Osprey Double and am about to start on my first cedar strip boat (the
: Endeavour 17 from Bear Mountain). My plan is to "do it all"
: including cutting my own strips. Can anyone tell me of a source for
: reasonably priced Western Red Cedar in the Toronto area. I am familiar
: with Noahs but was hoping to get wood more reasonably priced.

: As an aside I had the good fortune to be in Vancouver BC last weekend (after
: four days of kayaking the Broken Island group in Barkley Sound) to catch
: the Vancouver Wooden boat show. It was not as large as R2K but they had
: four diplays of cedar strip kayaks (several Spring Runs, two Endeavours
: and several Guillemots).

: thanks for your help.
