Mike, not an expert here but AT had a lot of $40 canoe paddles at the Wooden Canoe Heritage Assembly which sold quickly to the untrained eye. They were good looking, nice design but lacked the basics of a good paddle. Poor grain, grain run out, etc. If you only paddle flat water, they may hold up but if you put them to the test, they may break. Just my $0.02.
