: Isn't that spray hypolon? The stuff they use to skin modern badarkas? If it
: is would it work well as a covering over a carved mincell foam seat?
It isn't hypalon, Todd, but it does work well as a sealant and abrasion resistant "cover" on minicell seats.
The stuff I use is found in chain hardware stores --- Lowe's, Home Depot --- and sells as "Plasti Dip" (sic), a "spray-on heavy duty flexible rubber coating". Not sure where the "rubber" is, but it's composed of Xylene, Naphtha, Hexane, Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Toluene and Aliphatic Hydrocarbons. It comes in a bunch of colors, is easy to use (outdoors), and will cover well sanded minicell with a protectant coating --- but it needs three or four thin applications. With the MEK and other goodies in it, I was surprised to see the company get the Minnesota "Governor's Award for Excellence in Polution Prevention", but maybe they have to sell the stuff exclusively outside the state --- dunno. (Considering Minnesota's choice in governors, though, I guess you have to lower the bars a little.....)
Important: you really have to sand the minicell smooth, or this stuff will look like non-skid --- and act accordingly. If the surface is as smooth as you can get it with Dragon Skin or equivalent, then go to a piece of sanding screen used for sheetrock and plaster. Great stuff for a final smoothing down. Would recommend washing the pieces off and letting them dry first to ensure that there's little or no dust or loose particles on the surface. (Probably would not recommend using it on minicell already installed inside a cockpit --- at least not stuff glued down well inside the cockpit or already installed on the underside of the deck. Pretty bad environment inside a cockpit! But you could probably brush on the non-spray, thicker goop by the same company --- used for dipping handles of tools, etc.)
As I think I indicated earlier, this stuff *seems* good so far, but I don't have any long term --- a year or three --- data on its durability. But so far, so good.
