I reciently covered a back band I made og closed cell with black "Sunbrella". Go to a boat top canopy maker. They use 'sunbrella" which is made for the Salt water environment etc. The place I went to just gave me a large scrap for free. It's the perfect material for what you're doing. I coated both surfaces with contact cement to adhear it.
