I think I used 220 on the epoxy to prep for varnish. I'm sure 120 would be fine, but it might take more coats of varnish to hide all scratches. Between coats of varnish, I used a Scotch-Brite pad to scuff-up the surface.

Chris, are you taking the boat to the Newfound Rendezvous?
