The Chesapeake 14 was my first thought, too; however, you didn't specify kayak (though this is a kayak board). If you're interested in something other than a kayak, you may want to check out the Geodesic Aerolite boats (link below) - they look fun, inexpensive, easy to build and extremely lightweight. Another suggestion would be a pirogue like that offered at Uncle John's General Store: http://www.unclejohns.com/boat/default.htm There are several other sites that immediately pop into my mind, such as : HH Payson's site, The Worldwide Boating Store, Clark Craft, www.bateau.com that offer various boat plans and kits.
I have a fairly large collection of bookmarks to sites like these, and I'd be glad to share it with you if you email me. Happy hunting!
: After taking a summers diverson building a 30' alum. hulled houseboat I have
: decided to build the kids a boat. (My wife and I have found that 3 boys
: ages 7,4 and 2 on a 30' houseboat is a little snug!!)
: I'd like to find a design in the 10'- 14' range that one or two of the boys
: could use/paddle at a time. I've built both S&G and strip so either will
: work for me. Its use would obviously be in sheltered inland waters under
: carefull supervision. I've seen designs in the Glen-L catalog but not much
: else. Does anyone have any recommendations?
