Kayak Storage

Over the weekend I built a sliding rack for my two kayaks. I used the track hardware from a pole-barn door. I built two "T's" from treated lumber and hung them upside down from the track slide hardware. Between the two upside down "T's" I attatched 8' 2x2's that are 12" on center. The two kayak's sit on the 2x2's. The entire track assembly is attatched to the joists under a screen porch. When I slide the kayaks under the porch they stay dry and are out of the way. Two questions:

1. I thought about padding the 2x2's. My fear is if I put the Coho away wet, I will have a problem with moisture in the padding and stains on the boat. I am currently leaning towards varnishing the 2x2's so the boat slides in easier.

2. Is sitting on 2x2's OK for the entire winter? The Coho does not have a lot of rocker so its seems to get pretty good support. My other boat is a plastic Old Town (I am builing a Spring Return this winter). Will a platic boat sitting on 2x2's all winter be a problem?

I appreciate your help
