Hi Ed.
I found an excellent source for Japanese paper (rice paper is a misnomer). I called the Japanese Paper Place and they were very helpful and interested in what I was using it for. They will send (sell) you book of 2x3 samples of all their paper and send 8.5 x 11 samples for $2/sheet. The textures, thicknesses, sizes, and colors are quite varied. After some discussion I ordered 2 sheets of 3 types of paper.
Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to experiment, but I don't expect a problem. Prior to this I've printed on the tissue paper that is used to wrap clothing inside a gift. I had a tough time keeping the wrinkles out.
Hope this helps,
Terry
: OK, the Coho is almost done...the final step is printing an image onto tissue
: paper, and then putting that on during the final epoxy finish coating.
: So, I've managed to develop a Kwakiatul totem symbol of an Orca; I tried
: printing it on Sumi-e paper (a heavier version of rice paper) came out
: nice and sharp. Then, I tried printing on tissue paper; no matter whether
: I tape the paper down to a piece of paper, iron it to get out the
: wrinkles, only print parts of the image at one time; I get runs and
: splotches from the inkjet printer.
: Anybody have any good tips or can provide the "voice of experience"
: to tell me how to avoid the ink jet splotches? BTW, the graphic image is
: just a little smaller than 8x14 paper, and roughly 50% black, 45%
: transparent, and 5% red.
: I tried epoxying both the sumi-e paper and tissue paper images onto scrap
: wood; the tissue paper is definitely more transparent. I'm also about to
: try a verson with tracing paper.
: TIA for any help
: Ed
