Hi Brian,
I have done that on all three of my boats. The last two I made two blocks per foot peg. I believe they are about 1-1/2" wide and about 4"- 6" long I used S.S. T nuts and S.S. 1/4-20 screws The block were epoxied in with the standard stuff thickned with Cab-o-sil and wood flour.
