If I recall correctly, the silicone rep mentioned that it was important to check shelf life as even tiny tiny tiny air leaks could set up a whole pkg. So no matter what you've done, just by having anything exposed - it will set up eventually. He also mentioned than setup silocone slowly exudes silicone oils during its whole lifetime (10-15 yrs? I forget). This means that saran wrap only will work and release.

Someone mentioned here that silicone has huge potential probem to marr the finish. In addition, as oils are (in miniscule but the effects are visible) continually released, finishes in the future may be affected. My understanding is that it is difficult to remove these oils, so look ahead also for some effective cleaning agent before revarnishing down the line. Whatever you are doing now, I would mask off and handle everything with care. ie don't touch the rest of the yak during the process prior to it setting up.
