I read in CLC documents both that they recommend certain things like using the two different fillers in the two different applications, but also in other places they explain how it is all up to the discretion of the builder.
They are right, and while I am not a seasoned veteran, on my third boat I feel ok tinkering with the procedures and materials a bit.
For example, I now would like to build a 17 foot ocean kayak with an open top like the CLC mill creeks have, for use in flat water. Im sure nothing would be unseaworthy or break. I find the boats uncomfortable with the little coaming opening, I like the open top and dont go out where the sharks are anyway.
: It sounds like you have built several boats and it has worked fine for you.
: Again, I'm only on my second and the first hasn't seen the water yet. Just
: was passing on what the manuals said. I to had read that it is more
: brittle but thought I better follow the distructions. I wonder what I will
: post on this subject 3 to 5 years from now with a few more boats under my
: belt?
: Thanks for responding. John
