I am considering building a wood strip kayak but in the country where I live (Ecuador) I cannot find epoxy resin. Is is worth going ahead with the project and fiberglassing with regular polyester resin?. How much weaker is the finished craft likely to be compared with one made with epoxy?. I understand that polyester resin is less waterproof than epoxy resin but since the kayak is only likely to be in the water for a few hours at a time does this really matter?. What other problems am I likely to run into?.
