Sorry, I missed your Sep 4 post until now.
I had the same problem with the deck of my kayak as you had, but I didn't have the problem at all on the hull.
The difference is I was learning how to put on the glass when I did the deck and was also working around the coamings (too much to do with so little time). The epoxy was setting up too much to get good saturation. I couldn't work the batches in fast enough.
When I got to the hull I watched for this. Whenever I saw it I would rub the cloth with my gloved finger to "work in" the resin into the cloth. I could watch the weave disappear as I did this.
Many times you just won't see it when building because it's too dark in the work area, but once you bring the kayak out in the sunshine it stands out.
The reason you see it is because there is a microscopic gap around the strand of cloth that the sun refracts off of. That's also the reason the cloth becomes clear when it's saturated with resin. The light can go straight through and not refract off of the cloth. This works the same way as when window dings are fixed by injecting resin into the crack.
