Jay, I tried your method after you posted it awhile back and found it works pretty good. I tried it with scotchbrite and it worked good too. I found that the hand sanding with water running on surface worked best for me. The water flushes the dust away and keeps the paper cutting quicker and longer. I can sand a whole kayak with 1/4 sheet of WD paper. If I just wet the surface, the paper loads too quickly, sanding takes longer and I use more paper. I have to work outdoors, where your method can be done anywhere.
