I haven't used Meranti plywood, but it is one of the two types (along with Okoume) that's highly recommended for plywood S&G boat building. It's generally a darker colored wood than Okoume, but otherwise I believe has very similar properties. I've noticed it mentioned on the Squeedunk Kayak site as one of the woods they use in some of their boats - which are quite nice, BTW.
