I have used Meranti but it was labeled as doorskin not as Meranti marine plywood. Mine was pretty good overall except the little surprise void near the bow. It broke when I forced it to conform to the desired shape. So, I cut that the section off and used redwood strips to complete cover the hole as if it was designed thataway.
It bent OK, looked OK and very cheap to boot.
