Downfall of floor length forms

I’m working on a cement floor so there’s no way to get a well-attached and stabile form. Being unattached to floor adds yet another problem. When all the cross bracing, stringers, chines etc. are attached, a certain level of stress and torc takes place. This can lift center forms off the floor, or even sway the forms fore and aft. I had one of the center forms lift and more than one sway. Also the bow and stern lifted which made truing the boat all the more difficult. Luckily, SOF is very forgiving.
If I could have nailed into a wooden floor, most of the form problems would have been taken care of. Still, a strong back is the way to go.

: I believe he is using a long, low workbench (stronger than a strongback?) and
: shorter forms. As I recall he found the numbers I had posted for making
: forms that were 20 inches shorter than those in Putz's plans.

: I had originally done the work with the intention of converting Putz's
: drawing methods to coordinate points that could be simply graphed or
: plotted directly on the plywood -- and also saving on buying wood -- but
: now that you mention the instability of the longer forms I can see yet
: another benefit to the shorter forms.
