I used two lengths of 3/4" plywood cut 4" wide. Screwed 'em together and made a 1 1/2" x 4" plank--it wasn't a box beam, but it was easy to construct.

Still, it made a boat!

It is probably a tad wobblier than a box beam, but much, much straighter than a 2x4!
