Well, I also did some wierd cuts with my table saw [keeping my fingers well out of the way]* to remove quite a bit of stock.
I probably spent 2 hours max shaping them. I shaped about 10% after they were in--they were a bit too inaccessible to shape after they were glued in. Mostly, I finish sanded them and did a little bit of top edge smoothing after they were in.

And that's not a light gap you can see below the knee hook. It's..umm...a scratch on the negative....yeah...on the digital camera!....
