Hi Bob, you don't say how big your son is. Makes a difference. My daughters have paddled a glass Wilderness Systems Poquito, I made a Pygmy 13, taught the 11yr. old to roll in the Poquito and the Pygmy 13, She has paddled a Chesapeake 14, I've paddled an Arctic Tern14 and I teach sea kayaking/rolling. I find most kids don't need the stability that grownups need. So if your 10yr old is under 90lbs I'd look at Eric Schades little boat as it may be the smallest of those mentioned above (I'm not familiar with Grants fine boats but don't mean to slight it, I'm just not familiar with it). Kids can be rockets for short distances in small boats, so why not give them as much advantage as possible paddling with us dinosaurs?
