On page 24 of the book, it shows the front of the cockpit on the Walrus 17, 6'7" behind the bow. His cockpit is 3'6" long. That puts the back of the cockpit 121" behind the bow, on a 200" kayak. My kayaks were 202". On my first kayak I put the back of the cocpit at 123". On the second one, I put it at 125", with very good results, it weathercocks less, and is almost perfectly balanced. I have switched to percentages for my third Walrus that is 212" long, I put the back of the cockpit 61.88% back from the bow. All this asumes that the bow and stern are raked about the same as in the pictures in the book. If you have a plumb stern and a strongly raked bow, then the cockpit placement may need to be adjusted.
