: Kajak-Sport offers some of the most comfortable fiberglass seats, available
: in three different sizes, and come complete with mounting hardware. Also,
: three different types of back-rests are available. Check these out on
: their web site: GOkajaksport.com (click onto Outfitting).

Well, I'm still leaning toward carving a seat from minicell, but after seeing this and checking out the Kajak Sport site, I'm curious about a couple things, and want to know if anybody can share their experience...

1) The Kajak Sport Ergonomic Seat comes in 3 sizes. Any idea what makes the sizes different? i.e. is it the width for different beamed boats? Or is it the length front to back. My big concern right now is some additional support under my thighs, for I am fairly long legged. So if the seat "length" (front to back) is only such that it would support my rear and minimally up the thigh toward the knee, it's not for me. Also, does anybody have any idea how much those seats sell for? The "Contact Us" link on the Kajak Sport site seems to be broken.

2) As always, I have discovered that if I think of something that at first seems unique, I soon discover it's already been done, supporting my theory that all good ideas have already been had. I recently decided that I absolutely HATE the foot pedals in my Pygmy Coho. They are the ones that came with it. It isn't really an issue of hating those particular ones, as much as it is that I think I hate little pedals in general. I was thinking about making foot sized/shaped wooden foot "plates" to mount in there, so I have something to press my whole foot against, maybe even padded for the arch, etc. Sort of a Dr. Scholl's kayak pedal system. I don't use a rudder so they wouldn't need to pivot, and nobody else tends to use my boat, so they wouldn't even have to be moveable. Looking at the Kajak Sport site at the seats, I browsed about more and saw their Pivoting Wooden Footrests. Anybody have any experience with these?
