: I am about to set up to HVLP spray varnish on a boat. I plan to cover the
: ceiling above it, and hang polyethylene sheet plastic all around it,
: forming an enclosure. There will be one or two box type window fans in one
: end of the enclosure, exhausting out the shop roll up door, with furnace
: filters taped into the oposite end. What are the safety ramifications of
: this set up with respect to possible static electricity buildup on the
: plastic and the potential for static discharge causing a fire? Has anyone
: had any actual experience with this sort of work, either positive or
: negative?
Hi John,
You shouldn't have a problem with this setup. You will have little over spray with an HVLP so your concern will be the fumes evaporating off the surface. Keep the fans running for about 1/2 hour after you finish spraying.
You COULD have a major problem if you have a natural gas furnace or water heater in your garage. make sure you turn off the pilot lights so that they will not ignite the main burner while spraying.
