If you're close on the foot room there are a couple of things you can do short of modifying the boat:
- What kind of footware did you use? Sandals are generally way to bulky. Some water shoes have bulky soles that extend well past the toe and heel, which reduces foot room. If you have either of these, consider getting a pair of closely fitted neoprene booties. That alone can gain you 1/2" or more.
- One thing that I've found to make a significant difference in footroom and comfort is the shape of the foot braces. Typical flat foot braces force you to keep your ankles flexed so your feet are roughly perpendicular to your shins. I found this to be uncomfortable and it also reduces footroom. I cut wedges out of 2"x3" pine with a 15 degree angle on them, slapped on a couple of coats of urethane and a strip of anti skid rubber, and attached them to the foot pegs with a single 1/4-20 bolt on each. Since my feet naturally splay outward, I angled the wedges toward the sheer on each side. I found this to be much more comfortable, since my feet are in a more natural position and the pressure is distributed over a larger area of my foot. It also increases footroom noticeably.
