Before I came across this BB I had built 2 S&G kayaks in which I stained the hatch covers and coaming ring with
Min Wax (oil based) to add some depth and contrast to the boats. They have both been through 2 summers now with
no apparent problems. Now there is no glass covering the stained parts, just 2 or 3 coats of epoxy (MAS on both
boats) and varnish, so I don't know if that would make a difference. I am now using Raka epoxy but haven't tried it over
stain after the warnings I have read here. For what it's worth a friend of mine stained his whole S&G and has had no
problems, but I don't know the type of stain he used. I'll have to ask next time I see him.
