If plotting by hand, use 10x10 graph paper. It has bold lines each inch and fainter lines each tenth on an inch. Using this paper its easy to narrow down to the correct inch and tenth of inch, estimating the 100th within the tenth's box is accurate enough for our purposes.
Nick's book gives a good description of of this technique.
