I built the first ospry for my wife, she had paddled it up at the factory in port townsend the summer before. when i had finnished it I liked the way it felt responsive wise that it just seemed natural to build the same for me. when i built them the coho wasn't available yet. last summer jenny and I took 6-months off from life and spent the summer up in alaska paddling everything we could. we did the chana river at the artic circle from the hot springs all the way down to fairbanks. it was a class 2-3 river with strainers everyware, no problems with the ospry though. it handled like a large river boat. we also did the keni fieords national park, lots of open ocean crossings, the only complaint would be that in following seas we could of used rudders, We choose not to put rudders on these boats because 90% of the time they handle just fine with out them. The next boats I build will be the cohos though because we really did feel like small fish in a large pond during the ocean crossings, and we will be putting rudders on them. we like to do a lot of long touring trips and the extra room for gear will be nice. I paddled one of the coho's in port tousened on our way back form alaska last summer and loved it. It felt like the ospry but a little bit larger and not quite as good tracking but it did handle better in the swells. all I can say is that we are very pleased with the pygmys! good luck!
