Thank you for the advice/reply! Yours and another persons response was very encouraging.
I would love to play around with stains and I think I could create some interesting effects...but don't want to mess with it if it's going to cause the epoxy to de-laminate or something. eek! But like you said...other finishes don't seem to be bothered by stain, so why epoxy? ? ? I guess I'll just call the maker and ask them. (Gougeon Brothers...nice people by the way...they answer their phones believe it or not and don't mind chatting)
They are the makers of West System epoxy, for those who don't know what I'm talking about.
Thanks again for the input!

: Someday is Today Mary Martha. Was your stain waterbased or oil? If oil based,
: how long did you allow the stain to sit before you applied the epoxy? It
: is the general consenses here that you can't get epoxy to adhere to an oil
: based stain, and I would like to hear future comments as to how it is
: holding up. I have always been curious as to why laquer and polyurethane
: would stick to it so well, and epoxy wouldn't. ??? I would love to do an
: oak or ash boat, with the Golden Oak stain as that is a really nice color.
: also, some of the antique whites they use on cabinet work would be a nice
: touch.
: Sounds like you answered your own question as to whether it is O.K. to do,
: but, I'd wait and give it some time and see just how it holds up. Did you
: do any test panels and try to pull the glass off after they cured? Might
: be a good test to try, on you present combination, and on whatever you
: plan to do next time. Whatever the results, post them here and you may get
: a following, or may be a warning to others what not to do. ??? Sounds good
: so far.
