For an excellent introduction to sharpening with sandpaper check out www.taunton.com/fw/. On the left side of the homepage under Articles and Tips click on Techniques. Near the bottom of the list, click on The Art of Sharpening with Sandpaper on Glass. Clear and concise, with photographs.

Also, congratulations on getting a plane from my homeboy, Lie-Nielson. Everything he makes is absolutley top of the line. Properly sharpened, that thing will be a weapon.
