One thing that makes Strip-Built Sea Kayak such a good book, is the lack of excessive detail. The builder gets to (has to) figure a lot out for himself and that certainly adds to the fun and excitement. It allows me to give myself more credit than I deserve for reinventing techniques, and it makes this board so interesting because of all the alternate cat-skinning methods shared.
But I don't have any basis for figuring out Nick's inscrutable materials list: For the Great Auk the Appendix says 27 yards. Later it says a 20 yard length will suffice if cut diagonally. I don't have any way to store surplus but am not averse to buying an extra yard or two if necessary.
Defender Industries sells 38", 44", 50" and 58" widths. How much of what do I want? Should I use 6oz? The list calls for 82 1" tape and 41 2". Are those 82 and 41 feet?
