: I'm just finishing up stripping my Guillemot, and I'm interested in
: sharpening the two block planes I've been using. I've done a little
: research on the web and it seems a combo water stone and possibly a
: sharpening jig maybe a good buy. Does anyone have any advice for grit etc.
I like my waterstones for their portability. I use a 1000 grit stone and an 8000 grit stone. I carry them between the two workshops I teach in and the two garages I am building kayaks in, using a suitable sized tupperware container full of water so they are always ready to use. I don't find a jig necessary. I guess if you can afford a Lie-Neilson plane, you can afford a couple of good stones
