These are really neat ideas. But, if you want the lazy fix, with no shopping around. Get the Lee Valley hardware catalog and order the beginners sharpening kit for $50 or so. A 2" x 9" (guestimate) combination waterstone, 1000x4000, and a Vertias (sp) jig to hold the blade. You might also replace the blade with a hock blade but they are about $27, your home depot will work just have to resharpen more often. This kit put a mirror finish on my blade iron in minutes and it cuts really nice now, also works on broadheads. The jig will also hold my spokeshave blade which is really short.
