You can use some small cord and make some turksheads around the shaft. This will disrupt the flow of water down the blade. I don't know ( I doubt), if it works as well as conventional drip rings, but it looks nice (you can get some really colorful cordage if you like). You can varnish over them if you desire for a smoother feel, and the varnish may inhibit a bit of water saturation of the cord. I think the greenland paddles are just wet by design. the ones that have the abrupt transition into the shaft would seem to stop at least some of the flow of water down the blade edge.
